Sit Stand Desks – Our Pick of the Best
The health implications of sitting down all day have been well documented. Perhaps that goes some way to explaining the surge in popularity of standing desks.
But a solid option for those who don’t want to stand all day and who want the flexibility to chop and change between sitting and standing is the sit stand desk. This is essentially a heigh adjustable desk that you can change throughout the day to accommodate you whether you’re sitting or standing.
There are lots on the market, so we’ve pulled together a collection of the best sit stand desks that you could use in the office or at home.
Best Sit Stand Desks
Here’s our pick of sit stand desks, which are generally all suitable for the home too!
Duronic Sit Stand Trolley Desk
This gets our best value pick being the lowest price in the list and still reviewing incredibly well.
The Duronic sit stand desk is heigh adjustable from 77cm to 119.5cm so it has less flexibility in that regard than other desks in this list.
But the castor wheels and relatively small surface dimensions make this a really solid home office desk option as it will fit in quite compact spaces and can be moved easily.
In all, we think this is a solid option and by far the best value stand sit desk in our round up.
Allcam Desk – Electric Sit-Stand
So this is a great option for the design conscious given its availability in white, beech coloured and black.
Almost twice the price of the previous sit/stand desk in our feature, this one is electric.
It’s a bigger desk than the previous one and has a larger height adjustment range (73.5 to 123.5 cm). 123.5cm is the second highest maximum height on our list making this one of the better standing desk options for tall people – some of whom struggle with anything below 120cm.
Simple design, multiple colour options and very well received on the reviews.
Allcam ED20 Electric Sit Stand Desk
The upgraded model from AllCam, this is rather feature rich with a slick, well hidden drawer in the table top and USB charging points built in.
Electric raising and lowering make changing the height quick and simple. 120cm x 60cm surface means it will fit into more compact spaces too. And if you’re someone who is bothered about the design and look of their office furniture, then this one probably ticks that box too. Personally, I think it looks pretty decent!
If you’re concerned about assembling this product then you can add “expert assembly” for £63 at the time of writing, which could save you a whole lot of swearing at a diagram. Or is that just me?
Flexispot Height Adjustable Standing Desk
This is the most expensive piece of kit on our list of sit stand desks. But equally, it also has the widest range in terms of its heigh adjustment too, going from 62cm right up to 125cm.
That makes the Flexispot desk a really decent option for taller people.
It’s a larger desk than others in this round up meaning it might be less suitable for smaller home office spaces. But if you’ve got the space and the budget, this is a fully featured desk that looks the part too.
Songmics Sit Stand Mobile Laptop Desk
So this one’s a bit of a wildcard because it isn’t a traditional style desk. Instead it’s a much smaller mobile desk.
It’s on wheels and is a tiny portable style desk that you might have in addition to a normal desk or perhaps in place of one at home if you don’t have the space for a full one.
It’s height adjustable from 72cm to 105cm so doesn’t go to the same height as many in this list. But it will definitely enable you to work standing up and its small size and three wheels means you can move it around the house freely (or the office if you plan to use it within a workplace).
Benefits of Adjustable Height Desks over Standing Desks
Getting a heigh adjustable desk can, in many cases, be more expensive than simply getting a tall standing desk (or indeed standing at a taller surface of any kind).
So if you’re someone who is happy to stand all day then sit stand desks might not make sense for you.
But for those who want the flexibility to chop and change, adjustable height gives us just that.
These are also a great option for those who are sharing desks. Whether it’s a home desk you’re sharing while working from home in lockdown or a business premises desk that might be used by multiple employees over time, the adjustable height allows each person who uses it to modify it for their own needs.
Health Benefits of Standing While Working
And just in case you were not familiar with the health benefits that standing while working can have, here’s a round up:
- Sitting down a lot increases our risk of diabetes and heart disease. Standing for a chunk of your day can help minimise this risk
- You burn more calories using a standing desk! Believe it or not, simply standing at your desk in an afternoon as opposed to sitting at it can burn an additional 170 calories a day. Across a 5 day working week, that’s a substantial 850 calories! This is likely down to increased movement. But this is a pretty impressive figure
- A study showed that the use of a sit stand desk can improve back pain substantially within just 4 weeks
- Another study suggests that simply standing at your desk rather than sitting at it can help to lower stress and fatigue
So there are a ton of benefits to getting on our feet for more of the working day. And with a combination sit stand adjustable desk, it’s easy to do so without forcing yourself to do it the whole day.
